Screen Sharing used to support showing a "curtain" when connected to a remote machine, so people at the same location as the remote machine couldn't interact with the machine in anyway. It turns off the screen to prevent anyone from seeing what the gesture. It is intended to keep the screen from being revealed to the eyes by providing a screen curtain. This is possible because Siri can toggle certain iOS Settings switches, and VoiceOver is one of them. VoiceOver for iOS is activated using the Settings application. The simplest way to disable VoiceOver from the lock screen of an iPhone or iPad, to then be able to unlock the iPhone or iPad as you normally would, is to use Siri.
